Mt. Gyachung Kang Expedition

The fifteenth highest peak in the world, Mount Gyachung Kang is situated in the Khumbu region. It is regarded as the highest peak between Cho Oyu (8,201m) and Mount Everest (8,850m). It was first climbed in 1964 by Y. Kato, K. Sakaizawa and Pasang Phutar of a Japanese expedition. The mountain was first climbed on April 10, 1964 by Y. Kato, K. Sakaizawa and Pasang Phutar and on the next day by K. Machida and K. Yasuhisa. The north face of the mountain was first climbed in 1999 by a Slovene expedition and was repeated by Yasushi Yamanoi in 2002.

Itinerary :

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to hotel

Day 02: Full day sightseeing in Kathmandu, overnight in hotel

Day 03: Preparation day for the expedition

Day 04: We take early flight to Lukla, (2800m) from Kathmandu and trek to Phakding, (2640m.), overnight in the camp

Day 05: Today, we trek to Namche Bazaar (3446m.), overnight in a local lodge

Day 06: It is our turn to trek to Khumjung (3790m), overnight in a local lodge

Day 07: We stay at Khumjung for acclimatization, visit to Gonglha for a panoramic view of Mt. Kongde, Parchamo, Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Kangtega, Thamserku and the villages of Thame valley and Kunde, overnight in a lodge

Day 08: After having food at Khumjung, we trek to Dole (4200m), overnight in the camp

Day 09: Today, we trek to Macchermo (4410m), overnight in the camp

Day 10: After having food at Macchermo, we trek to Gokyo Lake (4750m), overnight in the camp

Day 11: Today also go around Gokyo Lake, visit Gokyo Ri (5360m) and acclimatize

Day 12: Having lunch at Gokyo Ri, we trek to Ngozumba Tso (4998m.), overnight in the camp

Day 13: It is our turn to trek to Gyachung Kang Base Camp(5350m.), prepare for climbing, overnight in the camp

Day 14-43: Climbing period

Day 44: Base Camp cleaning

Day 45: Today, we trek to Gokyo Lake, overnight in the camp

Day 46: We trek to Khumjung, overnight in a local lodge

Day 47: Today, we trek to Phakding, overnight in a local lodge

Day 48: We trek to Lukla, overnight in a local lodge

Day 49: Fly back to Kathmandu, transfer to the hotel

Day 50: It is our leisure. If time permits, we would go for shopping, farewell dinner in the evening, and overnight in the hotel

Day 51: Back home destination
