Karnali River Rafting
Popularly known as the longest river of Nepal, the River Karnali springs from the base of Mt. Kailash (Ngari), the center of pilgrimage for both Buddhists and Hindus. It is snow-fed from the melting Himalaya ranges. The river drains a huge area and is popular for river rafting. Flowing south into Nepal, the river has benefited some western districts of Nepal. The river provides good experiences of the finest big volume rafting and Kayaking trip in the world.
Upon arrival at Surkhet, we proceed trekking through lowland Sal forest to the village of Saul. The distance between Sauli and Chisopani, the northern border of the Royal Bardia National Park, is only about 180 kilometres. We would give plenty of time to explore some of the side canyons and waterfalls which come into the river valley.
The rapids in the river are also pretty wild. When we reach Lohore Khola, the valley narrows into a series of canyons, the river speeds up, and there are big rapids, one leading into another, almost continuously down to the Seti river from the 'Elbow' down to the Seti. The gradient is 3m/km (15ft a mile) but after here, the gradient eases as the river winds up and emerges onto the plains and starts flowing penetrating Bardia National Park and finally joins the Ganges. Finally, we come to the Bardia National Park and combine our rafting adventure with a safari trip. After completing the jungle activities, we drive back to Kathmandu.
